Support Les Bayliss For General Secretary - Unite the Union

In 2010, members will vote on who will be the General Secretary of Unite.

During ten regional meetings, attended by over 600 Unite members, reps, activists and officials, from the former Amicus and TGWU sections, Les Bayliss was selected as the Workers Uniting Group candidate in the forthcoming General Secretary election.

Over those ten meetings - and in many discussions with Unite members Les Bayliss outlined his reasons for standing for a job which he says "..will affect the trade union and Labour movement over the next five to ten years - it’s that important."

Les Bayliss is fighting and campaigning for:

A union based on the three pillars of Unite - building the union through strong organization; political campaigning and internationalism.
Creating a unified Unite, taking the union forward - not a "mark two" of previous unions.
A union that is financially strong - with a growing membership and activist base.
Support for Unite reps, activists and members with strong, leadership to protect employment, members pay and conditions, in every sector - private or public - in every region, branch, chapel, office or workplace.
Support for the repeal the anti-union laws and an end to the European Court of Justice rulings which are shackling our members fighting for workplace justice.
The development of the new democratic structure at region and sector level - with equalities for all at the heart of the union.
Building a powerful union that campaigns for and listens to its members.

Les Bayliss will provide strong and experienced leadership and is ready for the challenge!
